Bible dictionary says the "fornication" = "pre-marital sex".   == This is a WRONG definition.

Fornication has the wrong definition. Does not mean "pre-marital sex".  If you look up every verse using the word fornication and study the context of each,  you will discover that 98% of them are directly connected to using your God given sexual freedom that God gave to all creation at creation is being misused by using this sexual freedom to join in the pagan worship of the fertility pagan god in hope of getting blessed by this pagan fertility pagan god to get better crops and more fertile animals to make more money.

 Compare 1 Cor 10:8 and Nu 25: 1-9

1 Cor 10:8 uses the word fornication and Nu 25: 1-9 defines the word in detail. This is the correct definition of the word fornication. If you apply this definition to every time you see the word fornication 98% it is the case. The other 2% is either lazy translation work or just using the wrong word or a misunderstanding of some kind.

In all cases it is NOT pre-marital sex at all.

Is Premarital Sex a Sin? Bible Scholars Respond

In a recent thread on Facebook, Dr. Jerry Walls posted a discussion on the topic of premarital sex and the Bible. As expected, it got a lot of attention, but the comments that followed revealed a lack of understanding in the way of biblical marriage. The responses here from professors of Biblical Studies provide some important notes on the biblical texts and their world that serve as as a foundation for a biblical theology of sexuality and marriage. Some are to the point while others provide rich contextual insight into the texts that often get attention.

Dr. Jerry Walls:

Recently, one of my students raised some fascinating questions that more and more people today seem to be asking, namely, whether premarital sex is really a sin, and whether the Bible is really clear on the matter. Here is how he posed the question:

“I will qualify this to say that my girlfriend and I aren’t doing anything; however, we were both fairly surprised to discover that the “sex in marriage only” thing is not really there. Everyone talks about it, but I have as of yet been unable to find it. It’s a particular area of interest for me, because if the popular Christian notion of abstinence is wrong, we have been mentally and emotionally abusing quite literally millions of people.

In the Old Testament, sex before marriage leads to marriage (Exodus 22:16). In the New Testament, we mistranslate the word porneos as “fornication,” which we take to mean sex before marriage, whereas this is clearly not the case. The Bible uses the same word talking about reasons for leaving a marriage, which sex with a woman besides your wife is clearly not premarital sex.

Most sites and sources I have found say that verses prohibiting “sexual immorality” are talking about sex before marriage, but the argument here is circular. What is sexual immorality? Sex before marriage. Why is sex before marriage immoral? Because the Bible prohibits sexual immorality. My aim is not to say that we should all just go off and have sex with whomever we please, but the supposed Biblical prescription simply isn’t there, and I’ve done a good deal of research and asked some very knowledgeable people.”

Remember religious Preachers, Pastors and Professors are paid income and if they change their mind or their sexual  teachings, they may lose their JOB and have NO income. Big FEAR of loss of income.

Also, their whole life time they have “brainwash” by “the sexual  traditions of Men” to believe what they believe about. Its based on “traditions of men” teaching which Jesus condemned the Jewish leaders of following.

Jesus himself tried very hard to teach the religious leaders of his day against their wrong,  “tradition of men”, teachings and he failed. So if Jesus failed how in the world can they be corrected?

Also, Pride will prevent them from giving up their false “tradition of Men” sexual teaching.

Dr. Ben Witherington III responds:

As ought to be clear from 1 Cor. 7, virginity in a woman was highly valued before marriage. In that text she is called both the betrothed and a virgin. In early Jewish law if you had sex with a woman you were considered married to her or you had shamed her. See the story of Mary and Joseph.

*************************************************************************************************** reply:  virginity in a woman was highly valued before marriage”

Yes, this is true, but he did not explain why. Totally Man made, NOT God made. Fathers sold their daughters for as much money as they could get for them. It was a major disgrace if the daughter was not a virgin at marriage because then the father would not get a lot of money which helped the whole family.  This is a man made thing. God did not tell them to do this. Not from God, but totally man made.

At Creation God gave 100% ALL  creation sexual freedom to have sex with many sex partners over a life time. This was true for all plants, animals, and humans. God programed it into all creation. Animals and humans were created “one male and one female” at creation but this did not mean that all animals and humans could only have sex with this only “one male, one female” for life. Totally wrong conclusion. Clearly we observe the opposite, we observe the way God programed them to have sex with  many sex partners over a life time.

Animals did not sin, only humans. Animals did not eat of the forbidden tree and get confused and corrupt thinking, only humans did.

Animals follow their sexually build in programing from God himself and have many sex partner over a life time. Humans got the similar sexual build in programming from God. All creation was program by God to have many sex partners over a life time. God gave all creation sexual freedom at creation to have many sex partner over a life time. We observe this daily. Go to any large zoo in the spring time and observe God’s build in sexual programming. Same with all creation including humans. The Bible backs this up. Check the web pages for details.

Dr. Ben Witherington III responds: (continues)

Porneia can refer to all sorts of sexual sin including deflowering a virgin.

*************************************************************************************************** reply:

Wrong conclusion, wrong definition. Based on false “traditions of Men”. I can prove it. They always want to put man made dictionary definition in your face to dictate the false meaning of a word.  Dictionaries only reflex how people are using or misusing a word at the time. This can change at any moment. Example,  the word “gay”, 50 years ago it meant something totally different then it means today.

The “tradition of men”, are sometimes right, and sometime wrong, and sometimes corrupt and misleading. Most all sex words terms and definitions are intentional misleading and are corrupt and wrong.

The Bible itself defined its own sexual words in context, if the word is used enough. If it is only used a very few times  then it’s a guessing game.

But major words like “fornication” and “adultery” the Bible will define them and it does NOT match the corrupt, misleading dictionary.

By looking at sexuality in all the Bible in context, we can learn the correct definitions of these sexual  words and they will be in harmony with the whole Bible. The dictionary sexual words definitions are NOT in harmony with the Bible and  cause many contradiction all over the Bible and is not the true definition at all. Also, the false dictionary definitions cause many problems in many areas. Explain more in my web pages.

Fornication Definition Expose Wrong Definition

Fornication or Sexual Immorality is NOT Single Sex

Dr. Ben Witherington III responds: (continues)

What that whole discussion by your student ignores is: firstly, there was no dating or physical intimacy prior to an arranged marriage in the vast majority of cases. The notion of dating doesn’t exist in Jesus and Paul’s world.

*************************************************************************************************** reply:

Maybe in a few cases this would be true. Many times parents would be talking to their daughters just like today, but sometimes not. In Bible day the father or husband had authority over his owned women.

NO way is the Bible going to list everyone who dated and those who did not date, and all the details. But it does mention some of them.

Look at the Bible for examples of this. Most all Bible examples prove the corrupt man made dictionary sex words definitions to be wrong.

Look at Song of Solomon, a married man, King Solomon, with 60 wives and 80 concubines, (SOS 6:8) is Dating a single virgin girl (still a virgin at the very end of SOS, meaning she is not married. They will try to tell you that they are married, but they are not.) (SOS 8:10) trying to get her to marry him. Lots of nude dates, and oral sex, maybe even anal sex, (Jewish Girls would have oral sex and anal sex to avoid vaginal sex because they could not let their hymen be broken) but no vagina sex because she is still a virgin after all this. A virgin because the father sells her for a lot of money as a virgin. The moral issue is about obedience to the fathers desires, not a anti sex thing at all. This is not adultery and not fornication.

Song of Solomon 8:10 NLT  New Living Translation

"I am chaste, and I am now full breasted. And my lover is content with me.

Song of Solomon 8:10 MSG The Message

Dear brothers, I'm a walled-in virgin still, but my breasts are full - And when my lover sees me, he knows he'll soon be satisfied.

King Solomon had sex outside the  “one man, one women” marriage with over 1000 women. This was NOT fornication and NOT adultery and NOT a sin. But today per the wrong dictionary definition he would have had adultery 1000 times and fornication 1000 times, but neither is true. Because, they are using the wrong definitions for fornication and adultery The Bible proves it.

Song of Solomon 6:8 BBE There are sixty queens, and eighty servant-wives, and young girls without number. (unlimited sex partners over a life time give to all creation at creation.)

So per SOS 6:8 God disagrees with the wrong man made definition of Fornication and Adultery. This shows they have the wrong definitions.

Song Of Solomon Married Man loves Single Girl

SONG OF SOLOMON From Book Divine Sex

Jacob dated his wife 7 years before marriage and had sex with another women (NOT the women he married)  on his wedding night and a week later got his wife he had dated, so he had sex with two women,  and those 2 wives gave their single unmarried handmaidens to him to have sex with them. This is  NOT fornication and NOT adultery.  One time the first wife paid the second wife so she could have a turn to have sex with Jacob. He did NOT sin at all. NOT fornication and NOT adultery.

But today, per the wrong , misused dictionary definitions, Jacob, would have had adultery many times and fornication many times,  Because,  they are using the wrong, man made, “tradition of Men” definitions for fornication and adultery. Also with the wrong definition it would have forced Jacob to divorce many times and force him NOT to be polygamist and put him in Jail. Then the 12 tribes of Israel would not exist. The 12 tribes came from Jacob having sex with 2 wives and 2 single handmaids.

Ruth basicly, jumped in bed with Boaz. After she spend the night in his “bed on the floor under his robe” with him he decided he wanted to marry her. Ruth sexually seduced Boaz into marriage. This was NOT fornication and NO sin at all. . But today, per the wrong , misused dictionary definition, Ruth would have had fornication,  Because,  they are using the wrong definitions for fornication.

Boaz had sex with Ruth before marriage. NOT a sin. NOT fornication. But today per the wrong , misused dictionary definition, Boaz, would have had fornication,  Because,  they are using the wrong definitions for fornication.

Samson dated and had sex with a Non-pagan Temple prostitute (probably many times, nothing wrong with it) and it was NOT Fornication, NOT a sin. Sex with a non pagan worshiping prostitute was NOT fornication and NOT a sin. .

Judah had sex and a baby with a prostitute (his daughter in law) and that  was NOT a sin at all. NOT fornication, NOT adultery.

But today,  per the wrong , misused dictionary definition Judah would have had  done  fornication. But he did NOT. Because,  they are using the wrong definitions for fornication and adultery.

Judah had regular unprotected sex with prostitutes. He did NOT think it was a sin. He feels he did sin by NOT giving Tamara to his third son to have sex with her. The first 2 sons were Died.

King David had sex with many women, (over 25),  outside  the “one man, one women” marriage and it was NOT fornication and NOT a sin and NOT adultery, accept the one time and only one time he did do adultery, having sex with another man’s wife without that man’s permission.

But today per the wrong , misused dictionary definition he would have had adultery over 25 times and fornication over 25 times, but neither is true. Because,  they are using the wrong definitions for fornication and adultery. God promotes polygamy.

2 Samuel 12:8 NLT I gave you his house and his wives and the kingdoms of Israel and Judah. And if that had NOT been enough, I would have given you much, much more. (unlimited sex partners over a life time give to all creation at creation.) God promotes polygamy.

So per 2 sam 12:8 God disagrees with the wrong man made definition of Fornication and Adultery. This shows they have the wrong definitions. God promotes polygamy.

1 Kings 1:2 MSG

1:2 "So his (King David) servants said to him, "We're going to get a young virgin for our master the king to be at his side and look after him; she'll get in bed with you and arouse our master the king."

1 Kings 1:1-4

1 Now King David was very old, and no matter how many blankets covered him, he could not keep warm.

2 So his advisers told him, "We will find a young virgin who will wait on you and be your nurse. She will lie in your arms and keep you warm."

3 So they searched throughout the country for a beautiful girl, and they found Abishag from Shunem and brought her to the king.

4 The girl was very beautiful, and she waited on the king and took care of him. But the king had no sexual relations with her.

She would have been NUDE, against his NUDE body, to try to get him warm. NUDE body against NUDE body creates warmth. A NUDE female body, face to face,  on top of a NUDE male body, could easily have sex.

But King David  was so weak, (on his death bed) , too weak to even have sex with a sexy beautiful young virgin girl.  NOT having sex, shows how physical weak he was.

How many men just before death would be strong enough to have sex? NONE.

To have sex, take lot of energy. Just before death, a men has NO strength and NO energy to have sex.

At creation God gave all creation sexual freedom to have many sex partners over a life time  to all creation at creation including humans. King David at  2 Sam 12:8, and King Solomon SOS 6:8 has “unlimited sex partner” given at creation to all creation by God.

2 Samuel 12:8   New Living Translation About NLT

“I (God) gave you his (King Saul’s) house and his (King Saul’s) wives and the kingdoms of Israel and Judah. And if that had not been enough, I would have given you much, much more. (unlimited amount of women)” was given to him and all, at creation, by God.

Also, King Solomon was given greatest wisdom from God, in his God given wisdom, he  had over 1000 wives and concubines and unlimited virgin available  to him. SOS 6:8 (unlimited, was given to him and all, at creation, by God)

Song of Solomon 6:8     New Living Translation About NLT
“There may be sixty wives, all queens, and eighty concubines and
unnumbered virgins available to me. “ (unlimited) was given to him and all, at creation, by God.

Dr. Ben Witherington III responds: (continues)

Second, honor and shame cultures placed a high value on sexual purity.

*************************************************************************************************** reply:

This was already talked about being a “virgin” at marriage for money. Man made issue. Father had authority over their daughters, wives, concubines and any other owned women. Fathers would make lot of money selling her as a virgin.

But the father had authority to tell their daughters to meet sexual needs of someone they wanted.

For example: Lot was going to tell his 2 daughters to meet the sexual needs of a gang so the gang would not sexual abuse and gang rape his angel guests. This was the authority of the father.

In Lot’s of cases, if the daughters did not obey, they would have been greatly punished. The moral issues was not about having  sex or not, it was about  obedience to their father.

Dr. Ben Witherington III responds: (continues)

 Notice how prostitutes were stigmatized.

*************************************************************************************************** reply:

By the, “holier then thou”, religious leaders, but less then, then today. Prostitution was always legal in the Bible days. Always legal in Israel. Legal under Godly King David and Godly wise King Solomon.

But in USA it is mostly illegal, because, of wrong Church sexual teaching and wrong definition of sexual words in the Bible.

Prostitutes are in the Jesus linage line.

Prostitutes are in the Most Godly Faith’s Hall of Fame (Heb 11).

Jesus hung around prostitutes and avoid the “holier then thou” religious leader of his time.

Prostitutes loved Jesus greatly. Jesus did not put them down. Jesus loved them.

Esther , very young girl, acted like a prostitutes winning a sex contest to become queen. She was sexuality trained by the king’s eunuchs and her older cousin Mordecai, her "acting" father, but he real is her older cousin living together, he taught her how to win a sex contest, how else can a very young girl learn about giving sexual pleasures to an old man and win a sex contest. Today she could give prostitutes lessens in how to sexually please a man.

Dr. Ben Witherington III responds: (continues)

Women were mainly blamed for sexual immorality.

*************************************************************************************************** reply:

Wrong. Both  men and Women were punished. Most paganTemple fertility god worshiping prostitutes were women. sexual immorality”= “fornication” =”pornia” which is using your God given sexual freedom given at creation as part of worshiping sex orgy to a pagan fertility god as part of Baal worship of the Bible times. 1 Cor 10:8 and Nu25:1-9 This was called “fornication” by Paul.

In Corinth over 2000 pagan fertility god females worshipers would try to seduce both men and women to join them in the pagan worship sex orgy to worship the fertility pagan god. Mostly pagan fertility god prostitutes seducing men, not women.

Fornication , Major context connected to sexuality  in all the whole Bible, both OT and NT was the  using  of sex in the worship of a pagan fertility god which was called “fornication” compare 1Cor 10:8 with Number 25: 1-9 which describes and defines fornication. Look up all the word for fornication and you will see 98% will be the case. The other 2% are lazy translations errors or just guessing about the missing details. They wrongly define “fornication” as not married  “single sex” . This is NOT correct at all.  God gave sexual freedom to all creation at creation. “Fornication”  violates the use of their sexual freedom by using their   sexual freedom to join in the sexual worship of the fertility pagan god, one of Baal worship gods.

Fornication or Sexual Immorality is NOT Single Sex

Dr. Ben Witherington III responds: (continues)

Finally Jesus gave his disciples two choices in Mt. 19—fidelity in heterosexual marriage or being a eunuch! This means no sex outside marriage.

*************************************************************************************************** reply:

Wrong and intentional misleading statement.  All over the Bible Godly men had sex outside of the “one man, one female” marriage. Many, Many examples.

Matt 19 is talking about divorce issue not about any marriage limitation and not about pre-marital sex freedom option.

Warning  Warning   Warning Warning  Warning

When Jesus spoke to his enemies (the ones trying to trap and kill him) he hide the truth from them so they will NOT be saved.  When ever he is confronting his enemies apply this context.

LK 10:21 Then Jesus was filled with the joy of the Holy Spirit and said, "O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding the truth from those who think themselves so wise and clever, and for revealing it to the childlike. Yes, Father, it pleased you to do it this way.

MK 4:10 Later, when Jesus was alone with the twelve disciples and with the others who were gathered around, they asked him, "What do your stories mean?" 11 He replied, "You are permitted to understand the secret about the Kingdom of God. But I am using these stories to conceal everything about it from outsiders, 12 so that the Scriptures might be fulfilled: 'They see what I do, but they don't perceive its meaning. They hear my words, but they don't understand. SO they will NOT turn from their sins and be forgiven.' 13 "But if you can't understand this story, how will you understand all the others I am going to tell?

MT 19  Jesus is talking to his enemies, who are try to trap him. Always read with Lk 10:21 and Mk 4:10 as important context or you can be mislead in what Jesus is saying.

Also context in that day  they were divorcing wives for the smallest things, "Should a man be allowed to divorce his wife for any reason?" literary “anything”. If she burn the food he divorce her?

Also Remember the problem  is The Pagan Roman Empire “stopped” Jewish polygamy in fear the Hebrews would over populate and become strong and over power them. God and Hebrews always promoted polygamy so they could be very strong and a powerful nation. With polygamy if one women was not meeting all a man's needs he could marry many more. Ex 21:10, 2 Sam 12:8, SOS 6:8

Polygamy God is Very Pro Polygamy

Polygamy Monogamy Concubines from Divine Sex
God is Very Pro Sex Pro Polygamy

Mt 19: 1.After Jesus had finished saying these things, he left Galilee and went southward to the region of Judea and into the area east of the Jordan River.

2 Vast crowds followed him there, and he healed their sick.

3 Some Pharisees came and tried to trap him  (apply Lk 10:21 and Mk 4:10 as important context ) with this question:

"Should a man be allowed to divorce his wife for any reason?"

4 "Haven't you read the Scriptures?" Jesus replied.

"They record that from the beginning 'God made them male and female.'

5 And he (Jesus) said,

'This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.'

6 Since they are no longer two but one, let no one separate them, for God has joined them together."

7 "Then why did Moses say a man could merely write an official letter of divorce and send her away?" they asked.

8 Jesus replied,

"Moses permitted divorce as a concession to your hard-hearted wickedness, but it was not what God had originally intended.

9 And I say unto you , Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committed adultery :

10 Jesus' disciples then said to him, "Then it is better not to marry!"

11 "Not everyone can accept this statement,"

Jesus said. "Only those whom God helps.

12 Some are born as eunuchs, some have been made that way by others, and some choose not to marry for the sake of the Kingdom of Heaven. Let anyone who can, accept this statement."

Mark 10:1-12,  Mat 5:31,  1 Cor 7: 10, 11,  Lu 16:18,  Jn 10:40

Jesus whole  life is under the Age of the Law. Age of Law stopped after Jesus rose from the dead. Age of Grace started then.

Gospels were all under the Age of the Law, NOT Under the Age of Grace which we have today.

Deut 24:1 When a man hath taken a wife, and married her, and it come to pass that she find no favour in his eyes, because he hath found some uncleanness in her: then let him write her a bill of divorcement, and give it in her hand, and send her out of his house.

2 And when she is departed out of his house, she may go and be another man's wife.

Matt 19  has nothing to say against “Pre-marital sex” at all. The issue here is about Divorce only. Also this is not against Polygamy either. You can be “one fresh” with millions of women if you want to. King Solomon was “one flesh” with 1000 wives and concubines. Solomon had greatly wisdom from God himself,  more then any other man on earth.

A Problem in the NT was the Roman Empire would not let the Hebrews be polygamist because they feared that they would over populate and over power the Roman Empire. This would cause a high divorce rate because in the OT if “one women” did not meet all their needs they could marry many more women unless they were very poor. Remember they had to pay lots of money to buy a women.

Sharing wife with another is ok and is not adultery or sin of any kind Per Exodus 21:4 in the Bible. Why share a wife? read Ex 21:10

Bible Exodus 21:4 --"If his master gave him (unmarried single servant) a wife (loans him one of his wives) while he was a slave, and they had (lots of sex)  sons or daughters, then the man (unmarried single servant) will be free in the seventh year, but his (master's loaner wife) wife and children will still belong to his master.”

Also look at Exodus 21:10 --- WHY a master may share many of his wives with other men. -- To avoid losing them.

A Bible verse where a man let another man have sex with his wife. 100% in the Bible. God is very pro-sharing your wife with others.

A Bible verse where a man let another man have sex with his wife. This is not adultery, nor a sin of any kind. This fulfill the 2 greatest commands. Love God as the only truth deity creator God. The second, is to love others as we love ourselves.

If the master married many wives he must meet all the wives sexual needs or they may go free. Ex 21:10  (other men can help him do that)

Ex 21:10  " If he himself marries her and then takes another wife, he may not reduce her food or clothing or fail to sleep with her as his wife. 11 If he fails in any of these three ways, she may leave as a free woman without making any payment. "

Ex. 21:4 is another verse you will never hear in church.

This clearly shows a man is loaning one of his wives be another man’s sexual lover for a period of time and when he leaves he takes back his wife and any children the sexual lover produce.  This wife is never a real wife to the second man, he never owns her, she only is a sexual lover to meet his sexual needs as a live in sexual lover does. The husband is the owner of the wife.  Both the wife and the wife’s children belong to the  real husband, which is the master, never the second man. The second man never has any  ownership rights at all. He was never the husband to her only a sexual lover.

God is always pro-polygamy.

Dr. Bill Arnold responds:

For the Old Testament side of things, it’s interesting that the only text your student interlocutor mentions is the Book of the Covenant stipulation that a man who seduces a virgin should pay her bride-price and make her his wife (Exod 22:16). What the student fails to observe is that the premise of this legal stipulation is that the man has, in fact, gotten the process reversed. He should have negotiated the bride-price, then married her, then had intercourse. The point of the law, as with many other laws in the Book of the Covenant, is that he has willfully done something wrong and must now make amends. The text the student is citing in your discussion actually supports your position, and not his.

*************************************************************************************************** reply:

Partly true. He does not tell the whole story, by not doing so it  is misleading.

Part of

The only Biblical law that deals specifically with this issue,

giving an actual example, is Ex. 22:16-17. Here, a man has sex with

a single girl. Scripture does not designate this as sin in any sense. It

is NOT defined as “fornication,” or “promiscuity.” In this case, God’s

law establishes responsibility of the man toward the girl with

whom he has sex. God’s first choice is that the man marry her. But

if her father refuses the marriage, a money dowry must be paid.

Copulating with a woman mandates financial responsibility for her.

Marriage is preferred but otherwise money paid to her because of

the sex and the taking of her virginity, is allowed. This is God’s law!

Having sex with a single girl is not “fornication” or sin here. If her

“price” is paid, marriage is not mandated, and no punishment is

inflicted. This financial responsibility is part of the honoring of

relationships and the persons of others, which governs sexual practice.

A man cannot just chase every skirt he sees and treat the women

like trash. If he is going to sex a woman he must compensate her

according to her price. Marriage is God’s preference but God

Himself allows for other means of discharging this responsibility.

If the girl is at home, the father sets the price. If she is not at home the

assumption seems to be valid that the girl herself sets the price. The

only other Biblical restriction on such a practice seems to be that of

the general requirement God makes regarding everything:

“moderation in all things.” Excessive sexual indulgence is implied in

the words “lasciviousness” and “concupicence.” Being financially

responsible for one’s sexual practices would in itself inhibit what

we call “promiscuity.” Since we do not have the same social,

cultural setting now as prevailed in this Biblical example it is more

difficult to determine the exact requirements for appropriate

“responsibility” of a man toward a girl with whom he copulates.

We do not pretend to be able to settle this issue here.

What is apparent though is that if the sex act is performed by those who are

not married the Bible does not define it as sin. If the Bible does not

do so we cannot.

Aside from actual Biblical law, there are several examples in

Scripture of non-marital sex.

Dr. Bill Arnold responds:

Also, although perhaps not directly related to the question of premarital sex, the single most neglected datum from the OT related to marriage is Gen. 2:24-25. I never thought in my wildest dreams that this text would become controversial in our day, but it elevates the idea of heterogeneous marriage between one male and one female, regardless of how we conceptualize a state-defined and sanctioned certificate of marriage. The biblical concept is clear enough.

*************************************************************************************************** reply:

Totally wrong. Totally misunderstood or intentionally misleading by him. Another lie from “traditions of Men” teaching past down for generations.

My web site clearly explains how wrong he is.

Gen 2:24Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife (NOT wife but women): and they shall be one flesh. 25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, (NOT wife but women) and were not ashamed .”

Bible Gen 223 Cleave to Women NOT Wife

Bible 1 Cor 72-4 Women NOT Wife

They want to tell you that because God make humans, “one male, one female”,  that you should have sex with only “one person” your whole life. Totally wrong logic,  and wrong thinking.

In verse Gen 2:24 they want to say that “one flesh” means you only have sex with one person your whole life. Totally wrong conclusion. You can be “one flesh” with unlimited women over a life time. Solomon was “one flesh” with over 1000 women.  (SOS 6:8 2 Sam 12:8) unlimited given at creation to all creation by God.

They read this with blinders on their eyes and they turn their brain off. The opposite is true. Gen 1 and 2 clearly show the opposite of this to be true, easy to prove.

God make all animals and humans “one male, one female” . No one in their right mind would say that God programmed all animals to only have only one sex partner their whole life just because God make them “one male, one female” at creation. NO ONE.

God programmed them to have many sex partners their whole life. God did it.  God programed both animals and humans, NOT to only have sex with only one sex partner for life, but with many. This is God’s programming and God’s plan. God promote polygamy in the Bible. 2 sam 12:8, SOS 6:8 God gave sexual freedom to all creation at creation, all plant, all animal, all humans.

This is clearly proven everyday by seeing how God program both animals and humans to have strong sex drives and  all to have many sex partner over a life time.

If Adam and Eve never ate from the forbidden tree, but ate from the "Tree of (eternal) life" Then  they would both have total sexual freedom that God programed into all creation. All plants, all animals and all humans, ALL, 100% creation for all time on earth.

But, because only humans ate the forbidden tree and sinned, only Eve, was punished by God, changing her, “chain of Command”,  and Adam now has control over Eve’s sexual freedom. (Gen 3:16) But Adam still has his sexual freedom from God give to all creation. Proven in the Bible SOS 6:8 and 2 Sam 12:8 men still have unlimited women available to them, this sexual freedom was give at creation by God to all creation.

Again he is totally Wrong. Totally wrong conclusion of the passage.

Dr. Lawson Stone responds:

The student’s claim that in the Old Testament it appears that, rather than sex being confined to marriage, it “leads to” marriage involves a number of errors, misinterpretations, and blind spots resulting from not hearing the OT in its own setting and voice.

The fact in the OT is that a marriage was seen as naturally being “real” when sexual intercourse took place because sexual intercourse is the actual physical and emotional uniting of the man and woman.

*************************************************************************************************** reply:

He is the one being misleading. Just because you have sex with a person does NOT mean you are married to that person. Totally wrong. Many Bible examples see web page and I have already explained many above.

Dr. Lawson Stone responds: continues to pre-marital sex

This is the origin of the tradition in the Roman Catholic church that a wedding not followed by sexual intercourse, i.e. not “consummated,” is incomplete and may be annulled. But this proposition is not reversible, that one can have sex and consider oneself married! The union created by sexual intercourse is real, and happens regardless of one’s legal state or even feelings of intimacy.

*************************************************************************************************** reply:

This statement does not support what he just said before.  This “consummated,” is sex after the marriage vows, not before. They could have lot of sex before but not be married. Need marriage and “consummated,” to be married. Without “consummated,” after vows the marriage is not completed. Needs both to be a marriage. That was based on “blood” from a broken hymen to prove that she was a virgin because he paid for a virgin price. If no blood then he could give his new bride back to the father and get his money back and marriage is null and void. Again "man made rules"based on money paid for virgin price.

Dr. Lawson Stone responds: continues to pre-marital sex

This is why St. Paul warns that sex even with a prostitute still fuses the “john” to the prostitute as one flesh, and for a believer, implicates the Holy Spirit in an unholy union.

*************************************************************************************************** reply:

Taken out of proper context and misleading. Context is in 1 Cor 10:8 Nu 25: 1-9

1 Cor 10:8 Neither let us commit fornication , as some of them committed , and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.

Nu 25:1 And Israel abode in Shittim, and the people began to commit whoredom with the daughters of Moab. 2 And they called the people unto the sacrifices of their gods: and the people did eat , and bowed down to their gods. 3 And Israel joined himself unto Baalpeor: and the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel…..9 And those that died in the plague were twenty and four thousand.

The word “fornication “ that Paul is talking about is defined in Numbers 25:1-9. The Bible correctly defines fornication.

In Both the men were using their sexual freedom to have sex but the problem is both was they were have sex as part of pagan worship to a pagan fertility god which makes God very angry. Also, some of the pagan prostitutes would get pregnant and then give the human baby as a human sacrifice to the pagan fertility god so they would get promise of better farm crops.

We all know today that a baby is, “2 become one flesh”  half of chromosome are from the female and the other half from the male which makes up the new baby. In this case some of the pagan female prostitutes got pregnant by the Christian men and the Baby half pagan and half Christian was give as human pagan sacrifice to the pagan fertility god as part of pagan worship. This is what Paul is talking about in 1 Cor 6.

These Christian men were not “married” to these pagan prostitutes then was Samson of the OT who had sex with a prostitute. And the many other Bible example already told above in this debate. Read 1 Cor 6: 14 – 20 with this understanding in correct connect and with correct definition of the word “fornication” as used  by Paul defined in Nu 25.

1 Cor 6:14 By his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also. 15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never! 16 Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, "The two will become one flesh." 17 But he who unites himself with the Lord is one with him in spirit. 18 Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. 19 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.

The Bible sees sexual union as the vital core of marriage, but this in no way implies that no concern existed for making sure such a union was lawful, sanctioned and blessed by God.

The importance of marriage as a social, spiritual and public covenant or contract is pervasive in the Bible, especially the OT. The world of the OT was a patriarchal society based on land and agricultural production. In such societies, and definitely in the world of the OT, the title to the land follows the male line of descent. In such cultures it is unthinkable that they would be indifferent to being as certain as possible who the father of a child was. This is the economic basis (there are other bases, of course) for demanding a woman be a virgin when she marries, since her children have the legal right to inherit the family property only if they are of her husband’s descent, or are adopted or otherwise claimed by the husband. Likewise, a man who sired children outside of marriage created a confusing legal situation regarding land title and inheritance. In the OT, the land as the promised gift of Yahweh is the concrete center, the focus of God’s revelation and Israel’s faith. Given that in the OT the land was promised to Israel by Yahweh in perpetuity, and that this promise would be negated if through improper marriage or begetting, the land ended up in the wrong hands, the OT writers clearly would not sanction sexual activity except in the confines of a public, exclusive, permanent covenant between the man and woman: marriage.

*************************************************************************************************** reply:

Talking only about marriage, nothing here says that pre-marital sex is any kind of sin at all. Already give many examples of Godly men in OT having lots of sex outside the, “one man, one woman”, “sinner” marriage of Gen 3:16.

Sexual Freedoms From Bible Examples

Dr. Lawson Stone responds: continues to pre-marital sex

This reality does not allow us to say that, since we are not a patriarchal and agricultural society, that we may dispense with the importance of a public covenant of marriage.

Rather, it rebuts the claim that the OT does not insist on marriage before sex,

and it provides the human context out of which the OT demand for faithfulness in marriage and celibacy outside it emerged.

*************************************************************************************************** reply:

This is Totally wrong about men. Maybe you can say that about women under male authority in the Bible days, but not men.  Sexual freedom was given to all creation at creation by God. Eve sexual freedom was  only limited by Adam, male authority over her, as a punishment. (Gen 3:16)

Adam or men  was not given that same punishment,  but still had sexual freedom from God at creation, given to all creation. SOS 6:8, 2 Sam 12:8 many example already given.

Sexual Freedoms From Bible Examples

Dr. Lawson Stone responds: continues to pre-marital sex

The key point, here, is not just the agricultural or economic one, but the fact that sexual activity exists in a total weave of life, relationships, economics and community. Marriage recognizes this. Moderns, however, only think of sex individualistically as an act of pleasurable intimacy between the man and woman. They have no notion of sex as an act embedded in the social matrix, economic life, and trans-generational history of their community, to which they are accountable for all their actions.

*************************************************************************************************** reply:

Again nothing  about pre-marital sex here.

Dr. Lawson Stone responds: continues to pre-marital sex

The idea that extramarital sex is fine is only imaginable in the post-sexual revolution world of not just easy contraception and abortion, but a world in which no particular significance for society as a whole attaches to sex.

Already proven that statement totally wrong.

Sexual Freedoms From Bible Examples

Dr. Lawson Stone responds: continues to pre-marital sex

In modern life, we don’t really have “intercourse” in the full sense of that word–we just copulate.

Thus despite being a sexually saturated society, modern or post-modern life remains starkly devoid of sexual satisfaction.

*************************************************************************************************** reply:

Can you believe he make a statement like that. What a joke. Again nothing about pre-marital sex. Does he think that sex only with one person for a life time create "sexual satisfaction", NO way. Look at the 50% divorce rate that creates.

Look at the Bonobos closest in DNA to humans and God created them to solve all the problem with sexual freedom. All female have sex with all other males and they create a very loving and very peaceful society per God plan and God's design.

We can learn from God's creation the Bonobos. Swinger have a much lower divorce rate then Christians.

Dr. Lawson Stone responds: continues to pre-marital sex

The nature of marriage as a covenant in the OT uniting a man and woman, in the context of family, community and God, calls for public recognition. Unlike the privatistic piety of contemporary life, biblical faith was communal and public. A covenant in the Bible whether with God or between human parties, always assumes a prior history among the parties, a clear set of expectations in the relationship to be consecrated, and always culminates in a vow which is witnessed by the community. Given that the NT sees marriage between a man and woman as exactly analogous to the relationship between Yahweh and Israel, and then, Christ and the Church, abruptly withdrawing marriage from the realm of public covenant making rips up the fabric of the biblical revelation.

Exegetically, the appeal to Exodus 22:16, suggesting that sex “leads to marriage” rather than coming after, and thus not posing a barrier to a man and woman committed to each other exclusively, but not united by a marriage covenant, to have a sexual relationship is a strained and perverse reading of that passage. Exodus 22:16 can’t be interpreted as friendly to premarital sex merely because it only demands marriage or, alternatively, levies a fine on a man who has sex with a virgin before marriage. The Hebrew term translated “seduce” (NASB) is crucial. The Hebrew פתה patah means “entice, seduce, persuade with hypocritical appeal, take (someone) for a fool, persuade by flattery, etc.” and the related noun is the word often used for the (morally censured) fool in Proverbs. If sex prior to marriage was legitimate, the law certainly would not describe it with a Hebrew term uniformly used for illicit persuasion. So this was not just a guy and girl or an engaged couple who naturally consummated their relationship on the way to getting married. The text notes that the man “made a fool” of the girl. Nothing good there. This is why the law also provides for the possibility that her father will not allow the man to marry her, since he evidently does not constitute a suitable mate.

A second point on Exodus 22:16 is the penalty. Penalties mark violated realms. The man of Exodus 22:16 has in fact seized a privilege to which he was not legally entitled, took what was not legally his. He must therefore either marry the woman or, if the (wise!) father doesn’t want to marry his daughter off to a man who “made a fool” of his daughter, a monetary penalty is levied. Clearly this text has no idea of justifying or legitimizing any kind of sexual intercourse prior to marriage, but is a sanction enforcing marriage as the only setting for sexual union.

For what it is worth, I have for 35+ years informally looked for solid evidence of any culture that does not regulate sexual behavior in terms of marriage, and so far have not found one unless you count late 20th century USA. If one exists I would like to know about it. Margaret Mead’s Coming of Age in Samoa famously tried to claim this in one culture, but her research was subsequently overturned.

It is true, and important, to recognize, that fornication is not punished as severely as adultery in the OT. However, we cannot conclude from this that fornication is somehow “okay” but adultery is wrong. Even though a less heinous offense, it clearly remains a serious sin. Christians today, as heirs of a shallow, “cheap-grace” piety, have trouble with the idea of a scale of moral offense. We often hear the claim that some sin, usually not sexual, is “just as bad” as some sexual sin, and conversely, that sexual sin must be no worse than, say, breaking the speed limit. They tend to think all “sins” are the same, and assert a false moral equivalence among things thought to be sin. Thus, the church’s emphasis on sexual sin appears selective, harsh and hypocritical. This view, however, is based on a skewed reading of some of Jesus’ statements in the Sermon on the Mount in which he probes the motives of various acts, showing how one might avoid a technical infraction but still possess the unclean motivation that drives the act. This is not to assert moral equivalence between “thinking it” and “doing it.” This false equation of sins actually mirrors and distorts another truth.  Theologically, there are no degrees of “lostness.” Scripture clearly divides between life and death, following Christ and not following Christ, a narrow way and a broad way. We also rightly assert the futility of works to attain justification, thus all deeds are equally ineffective in securing our salvation. That fact, however, does not in any way imply that there are therefore no degrees of moral offensiveness or harm in different sins. Scripture and plain reason show that different sinful actions cause differing levels of harm. The fact that adultery draws the death penalty and fornication does not still doesn’t change the fact that it’s seen as a very serious sin. The very existence of the Ten Commandments, separating out a set of offenses from the other hundreds of laws and prohibitions we find in the Bible, implies gradations of harm and offense.

*************************************************************************************************** reply:

Already reply to these ideas above. Nothing against pre marital sex.

Dr. Lawson Stone responds: continues to pre-marital sex

But why would sexual sin occupy such a central place in biblical ethics? This point is most fundamental: in scripture, sexual identity and conduct is wired directly into the central reality of human existence in the image of God. The text of Genesis 1 gives us no explicit explanation of what the “image of God” actually means, beyond the definitions of the terms employed and the fact that in one verse, the author uses the Hebrew device of parallelism  to elaborate on the statement, “in the image of God created he him (Adam)” with the statement, “male and female created he them.” By paralleling “image of God” with “male and female” and by using the word “create” twice (which is not used often in Genesis 1, by the way) the writer exalts human sexuality to a central place in human nature and links it to humanity being in God’s image. Thus sexuality unites humans both to the animal world in its reproductive function, but it also points to the uniqueness of humans, since for us, sexuality is tied to our being in God’s image (unlike the animals). This declares human sexuality to be sacred territory.

*************************************************************************************************** reply:

“image of God” means “image of God”. We were not make gods. Just our image is similar to Jesus image. It was not an image of a lion, or a turtle, or a dog, but in Jesus Image. That is it. God also make human, different then others, but you can say God make a bird different from a lion. Unlike all other God’s creation he make us with a body, soul, and spirit. The spirit part is the major differences that we can have a close spiritual relationship with God. Animals do not have this spirit.

Nothing at all about pre-marital sex.

At creation God gave all creation sexual freedom including humans.

Dr. Lawson Stone responds: continues to pre-marital sex

Likewise, in Genesis 2, while the animals presumably were made with sexual natures for reproduction, the whole story stresses the peculiarity of human sexual differentiation, involving a kind of dialectic of sameness and difference, a “helping/saving” relationship. Tellingly, Genesis 2 makes no mention of reproduction in connection with human sexuality.

*************************************************************************************************** reply:

Totally wrong. Second command to Adam and Eve was to “reproduce and multiply” . Same to all the animals. God is not hung up with neither animal or human sexuality he make both. Animals are not hung up with their nudity or sexuality. But, only humans, in their sinful, confused, and corrupt thinking, are hung up with their nudity and their sexuality.

Titus 1:15 Unto the pure all things are pure : but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled .

Gen 1:21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth , which the waters brought forth abundantly , after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

22 And God blessed them, saying , Be fruitful , and multiply , and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.

23 And the evening and the morning were the fifth day. 24 And God said , Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so. 25 And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

26 And God said , Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful , and multiply , and replenish the earth, and subdue it : and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

Dr. Lawson Stone responds: continues to pre-marital sex

The stress falls entirely on partnership and intimacy. Most important for the discussion of premarital sex, Genesis 2 serves in the Bible as the foundation text for marriage, what we call an “etiology.” The woman is “presented” to the man, who declares her unique fitness for him, (“bone of my bones, flesh of my flesh”). The inspired author then declares the sequence of a man leaving father and mother, clinging to his wife, and the two becoming one flesh. Vital to this verse is realizing that “cleaving” or “clinging” does not refer to sexual intercourse. A survey of the occurrences of this word reveals that, when used of personal relationships, refers to a commitment that forges a relationship that is virtually one of kinship. It can refer to any such committed personal relationship, whether with other humans or even with Go., So the sequence is one of a man separating from his family, forging a “virtual kinship” bond with the woman, and then they two become one flesh in sexual union. The most natural implication of this text is that sexual union follows a clear act of dedication that involves families (“father and mother”) and which forges a new kinship-like bond. To assert that sexual union apart from a public demonstration and pledge of unbreakable loyalty is to make a hash of this central passage in the biblical presentation of marriage.

*************************************************************************************************** reply:

Nothing about pre-marital sex.

Dr. Lawson Stone responds: continues to pre-marital sex

This is why the Bible treats sexual sin as qualitatively different from other sins.

*************************************************************************************************** reply:

God at creation gave 100% sexual freedom to have many sex partners over a life time. Including human. God build this into all creation. Sexuality is very good (Gen 1:31) God made it. Human nature is very good, God make it. Human only added the "sin Principal" to God holy human nature.

Fornication is using your God give sexual freedom to join in the pagan fertility god worship. A major sin against God and against the first command. Pre marital sex is not a sin and is not fornication.

Adultery is using your God given sexual freedom to sin against another man.  a sin against man having authority over his owned women without his permission. This is Sin against the second command.

Swinging or wife swapping is not adultery because it has mutual agreement between both men. Ex 21:4  Pre-marital sex is not adultery and NOT fornication.

Dr. Lawson Stone responds: continues to pre-marital sex

Sexual sin alone is used as a metaphor for idolatry/apostasy. No other sin is regularly used in that way. Just as apostasy/idolatry tear at the core fabric of humans in relationship with God, so sexual sin tears at the very fabric of human intra-/inter-personal relating.

*************************************************************************************************** reply:

God has authority over us, as a man has authority over his owned women. God uses what men understand so they may feel how God feels.

“Fornication” is adultery against God because a person is using their God given sexual freedom to worship a pagan fertility god for creating sex and sexual enjoyment which the one and only creator God created, not a pagan fertility god. This make God very angry.

Just like if a man steals his wife and has sex with her against his authority, the women’s owner and master Gen 3:16

Swinging is no violation of this at all. Pre marital sex is not a sin, unless you violate God by doing “fornication” or going  against a man authority over his own women and so the daughter can’t get her virgin price. But today no father sell their daughter like the Hebrews did in the Bible times.

Dr. Lawson Stone responds: continues to pre-marital sex

Not even oppression of the poor, horrible sin that it is, is used as a metaphor for apostasy, but sexual sin is.

One powerful illustration of this centrality of sexuality is in the “holiness code” of Leviticus. Most people find Leviticus 19:1-20:9 to be a very lofty moral statement. It contains some of the most elevated ethical teaching in the entire OT, including the “second” commandment. But it is bracketed both fore and aft with a series of forbidden sexual relations. Lev. 18:1-30 speaks of prohibited sexual relations as the cause of the land “vomiting them out.” Then at the other end of the holiness code is Leviticus 20:10-21 we find yet another such series. The point there is that the social and personal integrity called for in Lev 19:1-20:9 is not possible if sexual integrity does not exist. Sexuality as the strategic entry into the most intimate center of human truthfulness and fidelity.

*************************************************************************************************** reply:

Lev 18 again reflex man authority over his own women. Also at creation God is very pro-incest only after 2600 years of man hung up over his sexuality God there are some incest rule because of people sexual hang ups. But we see some incest in the Bible has no problem at all with God.

Today we are not under the OT laws. We are under the Law of Love and because of Jesus death and resurrection we are made a “new creation” similar to God’s first creation when Adam and Eve were sinless before God and in there right mind. Not in their corrupt mind. 1 Titus 1:15 Today we copy Adan and Eve confused sinful corrupt mind Thinking and think it is spiritual.

Dr. Lawson Stone responds: continues to pre-marital sex

Somewhere in a discussion about these matters, someone protested that this was “the ‘least sexy’ conversation” about sex that they had ever participated in. This remark seemed to me emblematic of the whole problem. Sexuality divorced from every other reality than the most obvious ones of attraction and pleasure. After much thought, I replied:

Sex is about SO much more than “sexy.” Sex is about helping your wife recover for months from a very difficult delivery of a baby you sort of had something to do with; sex is about loving the wrinkles and grey hair or thinning hair. Sex is about sitting by the bed wishing you could be the one suffering instead of them. Sex is about still feeling off balance when you have to go without your wedding band for some reason. It’s about staying together through times when you don’t feel in love, don’t feel dedicated, don’t feel “committed” but remember that before God and his church you made a promise, a covenant, and you’ll honor it–and discovering that those who keep faith with that formal, so-called legalistic boundary enter a garden of joy known only to those who surrender.

*************************************************************************************************** reply:

Nothing  about premarital sex at all. But he uses the word “sex” where he should use the word “love” instead.

Dr. Lawson Stone responds: continues to pre-marital sex

“Sexy” in our culture is a sad, pale cartoon made up of too much cleavage, too little self-respect, too much butt-crack and too many tramp-stamps, and over-tight clothes. “Sexy” testifies to our emptiness, a hunger, but not real desire. Lots of energy, but is it really passion? Lots of smoke, but not a fire to light your life, warm your soul and nourish your heart. The eyes of the goddess are painted, but the eye-holes are empty. The courtesan looks alluring, but the heart is stone-cold. As long as we keep chasing “sexy” we’ll never find the real thing. Instead, we get Madonna and Lady Gaga. And we deserve them.

*************************************************************************************************** reply:

Nothing here is against premarital sex.

I have clearly shown that Pre-marital sex is not a sin. It is NOT “fornication” and NOT “adultery” and NOT a sin.
